Sound in video

Non deigetic and Diegetic sound:

Diegetic: Sound that has a source in the scene e.g. gun fire, radio in the scene playing music or even a band
Non-Diegectic: sound that has no source e.g. music without a radio, narrator etc.

Establishing sound:

sound that establishes, from the very beginning of a scene, the general character of the surroundings

example: weather

Foley:
Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to film, video and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality.

These reproduced sounds can be anything from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and footsteps

Look at: Gary Hecker

Synchronised sound:

This is the process of aligning audio with visual cues.

Who's going to voice my quote? how am i going to direct them? analyse the quote to understand it better.

Concept designs - start planning the layout thinking about expressive typography techniques for key sections of your quote.

Continue the research - Establish a key understanding of how to portray your quote, think about other elements to bring in such as photography, video or vfx.

initial video idea

This is the initial video idea i have for my second quote where its all written text and moved along in quite a sharp formation that would fit my idea. I would have to draw my words on paper in a book and create the images on the words although i may be able to create this virtually too so the words move and still have the sharp jumps.

Typography ideas

Initial plan:

Use the Arnold Schwarzenegger quote and look at his idealistic famous appeal attributes, most common colours used, his attire, especially looking back at his body building performances as i intend to aim this at a fitness inspirational quote.

Black and white was a big colour of his pictures, making it quite historical, being a big part of history and showing he still makes an impact today. There are also lots of famous films he has been in: Terminator, Predator etc where colours are fairly dark but he is still a high sign of power in these films.

for audio i would want a calm background as his quotes are fairly hard hitting, get you off your chair type of quotes and do something with your life. I'd want either an underlay of a powerful melody under the voice over but not so much that it over powers the voice. Similar to that of the melody for "paint it black" - Rolling stones. imagery in the background faded slightly of his most well-known images and have it evolve from where he started, being a body builder, winning Mr Olympia, being in films then becoming president of a board

voice over ideas -

Idea 2: Cameron Beyrant

This quote is much more in depth and darker when it comes to comparing with the first quote but i find it very eye opening to those who can strongly relate to the subject. This would go much more in the direction of people who suffer mentally from certain illnesses.

Id take a darker approach than the first quote looking at influences from "bullet" by Hollywood Undead who have a very similar typography approach i would like to take in regards to this topic as their song is heavily influenced by dark mental thoughts. I'd go for a darker imagery tone though when the quote mentions demons and how they want to be free as well.

Creating the typography

Considerations:

  • Typeface
  • audio
  • photographic or moving image based background imagery
  • other areas of research in particular to my own project
Begin with visual research, look into your quote and explore its meaning, content etc.

look into the the:
  • Type
  • Colour pallette, textures etc
  • visual additions (photos, video
  • Find inspirational work from elsewhere to link to
  • consider wider cultural contexts (time period, artistic movement, other creative influences)

Quote Ideas:

Independance day Speech:
Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in this history of mankind.
Mankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today.
We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore.
We will be united in our common interests.
Perhaps its fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution -- but from annihilation.
We're fighting for our right to live, to exist.
And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!
We will not vanish without a fight!
We're going to live on!
We're going to survive!"
Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!

Arnold Schwarzenegger 6 rules to success:

So let me tell you, as you prepare to go off into the world, remember those six rules:
Trust yourself, Break some rules, Don't be afraid to fail, Ignore the naysayers, Work like hell, and Give something back.
And now let me leave you with one final thought, and I will be brief, I promise. This university was conceived in 1880, back when Los Angeles was just a small frontier town. One hundred and twenty-five classes of Trojans have gone before you. They have sat there, exactly where you sit today, in good times and in bad, in times of war and in times of peace, in times of great promise and in times of great uncertainty.
Through it all, this great country, this great state, this great university, have stood tall and persevered. We are in tough times now and there's a lot of uncertainty in the world. But there is one thing certain; we'll be back.

I’m not always happy, and I think that’s good for my mental health. Just simply allowing the happiness to go and the happiness to leave. That’s pretty much what happens when it comes to choosing to live a simple life. The grind, the hustle, and the struggle to be more happy and satisfied and enough felt really toxic to me. I’m okay with the small steps I take every day to maintain my inner peace. I’m okay with inner peace being my success. I’m okay with living like this even if some people may not understand, and I really don’t care.
Cameron Beyrent
There’s a world you carry around inside your head that you keep secret from others: the world that houses your dreams.  The world that holds the image of the person that you wish you could be. In the centre of that world, there’s a storage shed with a door that won’t latch. That’s where your demons live, and you spend your life trying to find a way to keep that door closed, desperately trying to keep those pesky demons at bay so they don’t catapult your mind back into the real world. But the only way you’ll ever experience freedom is if you let the door fly open, because although your demons may try and destroy you, they dream of freedom just as often as you.
ap (1.5.19) at the end of the day, your story is just that. a story

at the end of the day, our story is just that. a story. just like characters can develop, we can evolve, and just like the chapters end but the novel never does, we always have a second, third, fourth chance to initiate the plot twist we’ve been waiting for. the truth is that sometimes we become trapped by the stories we tell ourselves. the words that we speak, the people we stress over, cry over, tell ourselves lies over, the ways in which we spend our time, all serve as words in some archaic language that doesn’t communicate meaning anymore. if i had the chance to send a blast email to every person in this world, i’d start the message with: stop writing a story that doesn’t serve you. because at the end of the day, your story is just that. a story. you can fill the pages with love, tragedy, endings, beginnings, laughter, friends, every country in the world, or every person who has ever lived. and fuck the idea that you have to be one person for your entire life. fuck the idea that your identity must exist to make those around you comfortable. fuck the idea that your story has an ending you can’t control. or a plot you can’t write. or a beginning you have to constantly pay for. because at the end of the day, our story is just that. a story. a story that is messy and sometimes random and sometimes deliberate and full of love and moments you write down because you never want to forget them. and your story will always be open to become a reflection of who you are. whoever that is. whoever it becomes. every fucking word is worth reading. every chapter is worth living.
